Hospital transport A problem?

We've recently come across times when people have been unable to drive themselves to hospital and need to arrange for someone to take them. Below are a couple of examples of hospital transport. If you would like to add some more examples or would like to share your experiences, please let us know.

Patient Transport Services

These are provided by EMED:

EMED 0300 777 5555 for Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire, Peterborough, and Lincolnshire

EMED 0300 777 1800 for Leicestershire and Rutland

EMED website: https://www.emedgroup.co.uk/

All cancer patients are eligible for patient transport. When you call, they take you through a series of eligibility questions (they can't share the questions). The transport service depends on the location of your GP practice, not your home address, so if you live in Rutland, but are registered, for example, with Lakeside Stamford, which is Lincolnshire, then you need to contact the EMED 5555 number, not the EMED 1800 number.

Only patients are eligible for transport, not escorts (family, chaperones, etc). You need to ring at least 48 hours before the appointment. EMED is contracted to take you ANYWHERE in the country (including Scotland!), so you would be covered for transport to Addenbrookes for treatment.

Callconnect

Website: https://lincsbus.info/callconnect/callconnect-area-guides/callconnect-stamford/

Callconnect is an on-demand bus service. Callconnect serves hamlets, villages and market towns throughout Lincolnshire and neighbouring counties with a flexible booking system, plus a number of timetabled services. Callconnect single rides are capped at £3 in line with Government initiatives. You can make a booking from seven days in advance up to and including the same day of travel with a minimum of one hour’s notice. All bookings are subject to availability.

Callconnect use designated bus stops, as well as alternative locations. Sometimes a Callconnect pick-up point could be a post box or a telephone box. When you register, they will find your closest pick up point to you and this will be where they pick you up from.

If you have limited mobility or are disabled, they can go through an application form to see if they can pick you up from your home address. This is not guaranteed and it does depend on your location and accessibility.

Each Callconnect bus operates within a designated service area of up to 12 miles. In each operating area, you have access to many pick-up and drop-off places. Passengers can travel to their chosen location in villages and towns that are within the service area.

The Stamford and Peterborough Callconnect services operate six-days-a-week: 7 am-7pm, Monday-Friday, and 7:30am-6:30pm on Saturdays. These services operate in south-west Lincolnshire, east Northamptonshire, east Rutland, and Peterborough. The services can be used for direct journeys to Stamford or Peterborough, which includes Peterborough City Hospital.
