If it feels daunting, please contact us first.

If walking into a group of strangers feels daunting, please get in touch. We can arrange for someone to meet you at the door, welcome you in, or simply answer your questions before you attend.

These are some of our most frequently asked questions

Who can come to the group?

Anyone affected by cancer. That includes people currently in treatment, people who have had cancer in the past, and family, friends and carers.

Do I need to book?

No. Just turn up. If it helps, drop us a line so we know to look out for you — but you don't have to.

Do I have to talk?

Not at all. Many people sit quietly the first time. You can join in as much or as little as feels right.

Can I bring someone with me?

Yes — a partner, friend, son, daughter, neighbour. Bring whoever helps you feel comfortable.

What happens at a meeting?

Tea, coffee, biscuits and conversation. Some meetings have a short talk from a guest speaker, others are simply a chance to chat.

What if I feel nervous about coming?

That's completely understandable. Please get in touch first — we can arrange for a member to meet you at the door or have a phone chat beforehand.

Is the group only for people currently having treatment?

No. The group is for anyone affected by cancer at any stage — including after treatment, when things can feel unexpectedly hard.

Can family, friends or carers come?

Yes, absolutely. Supporting someone with cancer can be lonely too. You're just as welcome.

Do I have to live in Stamford or Rutland to come?

No — anyone in the local area is very welcome. We also share details of other local support groups and national organisations at our meetings.

Can I speak to someone before attending a meeting?

It's not easy walking in to a room of people when you're not sure you'll know anyone. For that reason we invite people to telephone first so that we can make you welcome when you come along to one of our meetings. The meetings are relaxed and informal, giving you the chance to enjoy a cup of tea or coffee while accessing support. Please call 07352 979613 and we look forward to meeting you.
