Cancer Research Walk of Life

Peterborough Cancer Research Relay for Life

September 13th saw the Peterborough Cancer Research Relay for Life held

at the Embankment Athletics track in Bishops Road. This event is held

annually to raise awareness of Cancer Research UK. Fundraising in terms

of sponsorship of relay teams and corporate supporters has year on

year raised over £30,000.00 and the total so far this year is £16,169.54

and this is still rising!!

The event saw teams running, jogging, or walking laps of the track over

a 10 hour period, with a candle of hope ceremony to close the day once

darkness fell.

There is a strong ethos of celebrating those who are on a cancer journey

and as such Stamford and Rutland Cancer Support were invited to attend

and walk the ‘survivors lap of honour’. A group of us went along and

completed the lap! Some of us felt that it was a victory lap in itself. The

sun shone and the rain held off for our entire walk. Our lovely Steph

managed to do a couple more laps and felt that she had come home!

Being a former county athlete who trained at the very same athletics

track!
